Cultural norms don’t encourage trans and disabled people to dress stylishly or loudly. Society wants us to “blend in” and not draw attention to ourselves. But what if we were to resist society’s desire to render us invisible? What if, through a dress reform, we collectively refuse to assimilate?

This is the opening paragraph from Sky Cubacub’s (Koo-bah-koob) manifesto ”Radical Visibility: A Queercrip Dress Reform Movement”. Sky Cubacub is the creator of Rebirth Garments, a line of wearables which challenges mainstream beauty standards that are sizest, ableist, and conform to the gender binary. Instead, Sky maintains the notion of Radical Visibility, a movement based on claiming our bodies through the use of bright colors, exuberant fabrics, and innovative designs. In this lecture they will be talking through their practice and approach which highlights the parts of us that society typically shuns.

Sky will be talking in English.
