Stenebyskolan, was founded by Erland Borglund in 1934. His aim was to create a school where hand and mind were equal, a strong basis for craft. Stenebyskolan’s courses grew and developed into longer educations, some leading to Journeyman’s certification. Steneby became a part of the University of Gothenburg in 2000, under the The School of Design and Craft (HDK) and the Artistic Faculty, the name at this time was HDK Steneby. At that time, some of the educations were transformed into artistic bachelor and master educations - what are now three material based departments and one common MFA program. In 2010, Steneby became a full institution directly under the Artistic Faculty. The school had its first bachelor exams in 2000 and its first master exams in 2002. While the bachelor programs have continued to develop since this time, the master program underwent an interval without operation from 2002 to 2004. In 2012, Steneby will examine its sixth group of master students.
