This is a joinery program designed for persons interested in working with wood and with colour and form. Its aim is to provide you with excellent basic know-how while providing the necessary prerequisites for continued studies in such programs as HDK Steneby university-level program in Furniture design and cabinet making, as well as at other schools offering courses in joinery, arts and crafts or design. The program also works well as a supplement to training you already have completed. It is possible to attend only one year of the two-year program.
During the autumn of the first year you will receive basic training in wood through such activities as practising traditional sloyd techniques and simpler joinery. During the spring you will concentrate on furniture making. You will work using both traditional specialist tools and modern woodworking machinery.
The second year is wholly dedicated to cabinet making. You will learn an inquiring, problem-solving way of working, one where you complete assignments either by moving from concept to finished product working from your own drawing in a creative, independent manner.
Artistic creation
/
As a student at Steneby you will also have around 200 hours instruction per year in artistic creation. The aim is to provide you with a broader understanding of pictures and pictorial construction, while you train your eyes in colour, shape and design.
The instruction includes:
Model drawing and croquis, focusing on understanding the place of the model in space.
Picture, composition and understanding the role of pictures in communication and culture.
Colour and painting. Form and sculpture.
You will also carry out project assignments comprising adapted, multi-discipline challenges related to each artistic area.
