This program is designed for anyone interested in the areas of textile arts, design or freebase art. The purpose of this program is to expand the student’s creativity with an emphasis on developing their own individual artistic expression and methodology.
The program seeks to prepare you for continued studies in such areas as textile design, interior decoration, scenography, fashion, scenery, free-base art and design. The program will enable you to learn working methods that use your knowledge and creativity to solve the technical and design-related problems that arise as you take an idea and shape a finished textile expression.
During the program you will be faced with both artistic and design oriented problems that you will solve through your own individual creative expressions and solutions with guidance from teachers and aides. The aim of the program is to provide you with extensive technical skills in textile crafts, as well as developing your own methods and processes in artistic expression most suitable to you.
We focus on communicating both verbal and visual elements through program projects and presentations. Areas such as aesthetics, ethics and settings are a natural parts of the process. Your own reflections and personal interpretations are an important parts of the overall educational process. Through several projects you will learn to look at textiles from several design angles as it relates to both the object and its surroundings.
We work mainly with weaving, but will also work with textile printing, embroidery and knitting, as well as some experimental techniques with an investigative mindset as to suitability. We will also work on certain digital techniques for presentation and picture treatment.
In order to provide as broad an understanding of textiles and their related area, guest teachers active in the field are brought in.
You pay for all materials and field trips yourself and the final cost depends on the materials chosen. Should you wish to broaden your know-how it is possible to combine this program with an additional year in either Clothing or Leather – Fur or Form – Design, textiles.
