Det är en ära för mig att gratulera årets utexaminerade kandidater från Steneby - Institutionen för Konsthantverk och Design!
Den här utställningen representerar tre år av intensiv utveckling och personlig tillväxt för varje medverkande konstnär, designer och konsthantverkare. Den representerar också skolans kärnvärden i det större sammanhanget, i hänsyn till kreativ idéutveckling och värdesättningar - en identitet. Steneby kan stolt erbjuda utbildningar djupt rotade i hantverkstradition och materialkännedom. Vi är också stolta över att arbeta undersökande - att ställa frågor, ta risker, utforska och upptäcka.
Besökaren av utställningen lägger troligtvis märke till de många frågeställningar som lyfts fram av utställarna - frågor som berör allt från tillverkarens relation till den egna kroppen och personliga fantasier, till framtiden för en hållbar värld och samhällets utveckling. Vi är stolta över våra studenter -över kunskapen de har förvärvat, kompetensen de har byggt upp och den självsäkerhet de har att gå ut i världen och uppnå sina mål.
 
It’s an honor for me to congratulate this year’s bachelors from Steneby - The School of Craft and Design!
This exhibition represents three years of intense development and growth for each of the artists, designers and crafts-people in the exhibit. It also represents the school’s essence in the much greater context, in terms of the production of ideas and values - an identity. Steneby is proud to have educations built on longstanding traditions of skills and material based educations. We are also proud to be investigative - to ask questions, to take risks, to explore and discover.
The viewer of this exhibition may notice many questions being asked by the exhibitors - questions ranging from the maker’s relationship to the individual body and personal fantasy, to the future of the sustainable world and society’s development.
We are proud of our students - of the knowledge they have acquired, the competence they have built up, and the confidence they have to go into the world and achieve their goals.

Efter treårs intensiva studier i undersökande process visar 10 självständiga studenter sina kandidatarbeten.
Utställningen visar kraft och styrka, både i det som är mer spektakulärt och tar plats, men även i det som är lågmält och stilla, det som egentligen inte syns. Ett rikt resultat i det textila materialet som vi alla har en nära relation till, som vi alla förbrukar och bär, minns och lever med.
Tyst handarbete där görandet står i centrum, 
Frusna rörelser i sidenteckningar, Kroppens förvandling,
Då den skulpturala formen förlorar sitt ursprung!,
Överblivet material i dynamisk virkning,
Föreställningar kring könet och självbilden,
Hur människan skapat djuren,
Då en lek med klädesplaggen är oundviklig,
Geometriska grundformer förändras och tappar sin formfasthet,
Minnen som lever - reflektioner över historien, våra liv och det som komma skall.
Imponerande och säreget. Gruppen bjuder på en sällan skådad variation och stor spännvidd.
 
After three years of focused studies, of investigative processes 10 independent students show their Bachelor works.
The exhibition displays force and strength, evident in the more spectacular pieces that demand our attention, as well as in the subtle and quiet qualities of things made without intentions of being seen.
The work is unified in textiles, a material we all have a close relationship with, that we all use and wear, and remember and live with.
Quiet crafting where the doing is the central theme,
Frozen movements captured through silk drawings,
The transforming body,
The sculptural form looses its origin.
Leftover materials enable dynamic crocheting,
Conceptualizations concerning the sexes and self-image,
How man created the animals,
Playing with the garments is inevitable,
Geometric shapes morphing and loosing their true form,
Living memories - reflections concerning history, our lives and our futures.
Impressive and distinctive. This group offers a rare variety of works that display a splendid range.

Green design, care design, organic design, slow design, nature design.
Det är några samtida riktningar som tydligt beskriver hur designbegreppet idag har omformulerats och är i utveckling. Det handlar om att ta ansvar för vår värld i betydelsen eftertänksamhet och hållbarhet, något som är en självklarhet för våra möbelstudenter idag.
Under utbildningen arbetar vi med projekt som innefattar olika skalor och material både för privata och offentliga sammanhang där kunskapen om hur ekologi, ekonomi, kultur, etik och estetik påverkar och kan styra designprocessen mot en hållbar och inkluderande design; frågor som diskuterar fördelning och jämlikhet i användandet av resurser och råvaror samt problematiken med destruktion av förbrukad design och utvecklandet av en effektiv återanvändning av möbler och ting.
Vårt material trä är kanske det material som finns rikligast i vår närmiljö, som utmanar oss att tänka experimentellt och utforskande, ett hållbart material för själens välbefinnande.
Utmaningen för utbildade designers är att ta fram nya och innovativa produkter och miljöer som stöder och hjälper den moderna människan att utvecklas mot framtiden!
Det är med stort intresse jag följt årets examensstudenter och med stolthet jag nu ser arbeten som visar på medvetenhet, stor energi och spännande lösningar. Det ger hopp om framtida uppdrag och en helare värld.
 
Green Design, Care Design, Organic Design, Slow Design, Nature Design.
These are a few examples of contemporary directions in today’s design focus which has been reformulated and continues to evolve. At the core of design is a responsibility to the earth to practice thoughtfulness and sustainability and these concepts drive current furniture designs.
Throughout the education we have worked with projects involving a wide spectrum of materials both in the private and public context, where the knowledge of how ecology, economy, culture, ethics and aesthetics influences the design processes toward sustainable design choices. Questions concerning distribution and equality in the use of resources and raw materials are considered, as well as the problems concerning the destruction of discarded design, and the development of an effective system for recycling furniture and objects.
We work in wood, perhaps the most abundant material in our ambient environment.
It is a material that challenges us to experiment and explore, a sustainable material that comforts the soul.
The challenge for our designers is to produce new and innovative products and environments that support and aid modern humans as they evolve toward the future!
With great curiosity I’ve followed this year’s graduating students, and I’m proud to see demonstrations of awareness, force and creative solutions in their work. It gives hope for future commissions and a more sustainable world.
