Furniture restoration 1-2 years

This program is intended to provide you with the basics of furniture restoration and an orientation in furniture conservation. Most of the course time will be spent doing practical work in the shop and thus learning the working methods of furniture restoration.

The aim of the program is to enable you to solve problems independently and to carry out work in an ethically, culturally and historically correct manner.

Like a company

You will be asked to take extensive responsibility in the workshop as the training is run like a company working directly with customers. Preparing professional cost estimates is included in the work.
The program also includes instruction in tool care, surface treatment, intarsia and corporate financial practices. You will be provided with a personal workstation with your own tools. To the extent allowed by the program, we try to satisfy student desires for doing varied projects.

Journeyman qualification

It is possible to prepare a qualifying piece of work.

Eligibility

Basic training in wood joinery, cabinet-making or vocational experience deemed comparable.

Application and work samples

Admission is determined in part through the evaluation of work samples. These should comprise photo-documentation of furniture or other objects you have made.

If there are open places and you can demonstrate the necessary vocational experience or skill level deemed comparable to having completed the first year, you may be accepted directly into year 2.

Having completed the program, students have the necessary skills to start out on their own or to apply for further studies in furniture restoration/conservation.
