This program is designed to prepare you for post-secondary work as a designer or artist in the textile field. The aim of the Form and Design program is to develop your skills in the subject area, as well as gaining understanding and knowledge in design processes through practical application. The program will also broaden your knowledge of drawing and sketching, both as process and as method.
After completing the program you will have command of methods for developing and visualising your ideas. Much of the program is in project form within given framework or problem areas where you are stimulated to challenge and develop your creativity and problem solving capacities.
The projects are alternated with studies in colour and form, plus subject theory discussing concepts, attitudes and communication.
Digital techniques
Time will also be spent on exercises in using digital techniques for communication, presentation and image handling.
Textile technique studies
While the program also includes certain textile technique studies, the emphasis is on the design processes. Each student will have their own workstation, as well as access to studios equipped for drawing, painting and 3-D work.
In order to provide a broad-based picture of the design area, the program includes guest instructors and lecturers active in the field.
While you must pay for the materials you use yourself, the final cost depends on the materials you choose. The costs for literature are generally small.
After completion of the program, students are eligible to continue their studies in textile forma and design at such schools as HDK Steneby, the University College of Textile in Borås and University College of Arts – Stockholm.
Students from the Form and Design program have continued their studies at:
Steneby, the University College of Textile in Borås, fashion and textile design, University College of Arts – Stockholm, HDK, the Danish Design School, Beckmans College of Design, Oslo National Academy of the Arts and the Department of Architecture at Chalmers University of Technology.
