This program offers a basic preparatory education for anyone whose goal is to work with clothing in fashion design, theatre or scene costuming or free-form art. The program will provide you with foundation needed to apply to fashion and design programs at a post-secondary level.

The aim of the program is to enable you to learn working methods for using your knowledge and creativity to solve the technical and design-related problems that arise as you make an idea and shape into a finished product. Most of your time will be spent doing practical exercises in design, pattern construction, cutting and sewing. The tasks are usually individual and structured as projects. The individual work is alternated with larger discussions on techniques and material. Machine knitting and textile printing are included as alternate techniques.

You will be asked to accept much of the responsibility for the your study program, though your teachers will be available for guidance and discussion, as well as providing continuous reaction to your work. The textile programs at Steneby also make regular use of guest teachers and lecturers. The workshop and sketch areas are open after class and on weekends. You pay for all materials yourself and the final cost depends on the materials chosen.

Should you wish to broaden your know-how it is possible to combine this program with an additional year in either Textile Form-Design or Leather and Fur Crafts.

Digital techniques
The program also includes practice in using digital techniques for communication, presentation and image handling.
